Benefits of Membership - NEW FE Members
NASMA offers a variety of training events throughout the year both regionally and nationally. Events include formal training by nationally recognised experts which ensures our members are kept up to date with the latest funding changes as they occur. This allows our members to be properly equipped to tackle difficult cases as well as those issues that they deal with on a day to day basis.
There are discounts on training events for NASMA members and some events are offered free of charge ensuring that members can access a wide-range of relevant topics which offer excellent value for money. Below are just a few of the NASMA training events that took place last year:
- Introduction to Student Funding
- Intermediate Student Finance
- Universal Credit and Students in Higher Education (in partnership with Disability Rights UK)
- Immigration for Non-Immigration Advisers
- Professional Development Day - Supporting Student Parents
The NASMA Annual Conference provides a unique opportunity to network with other NASMA members from across the UK, as well as to attend a programme of high-quality training workshops. In between workshops members will have the opportunity to visit our marketplace and speak with external organisations with an interest in student funding and who can help innovate the work you do.
Our annual conference coincides with our AGM to ensure members are aware of the work being undertaken by the Board and to allow key updates to be communicated. Day 2 of the conference finishes with the annual gala dinner and the announcement of the winners of our prestigious Student Money Advice Awards whilst members relax and celebrate the hard work undertaken over the year.
NASMA members benefit from access to the FE specific mail-base 365 days a year. This is a JISCMail forum which provides an opportunity for members to learn from and contribute to an active and thematic dialogue of funding topics. The mail-base provides an opportunity to raise concerns and queries, and is a two-way feedback mechanism between NASMA members and the NASMA Board.
Members’ Area on the NASMA website
The NASMA website contains useful and informative training materials and resources. The dedicated FE Members Area hosts additional information as well as a contact database for reaching other NASMA members.
NASMA membership provides opportunities to join committees and workings groups which is an ideal way of gaining additional CPD development in addition to the training course on offer.
A dedicated FE Liaison role gives the FE sector a voice on the Board. Together with experienced NASMA members, we are able to reach key decision makers with the experiences of those working directly with students. Through the strength of the membership and our excellent links we can raise matters of relevance and are often consulted before final decisions are made. This extends beyond student funding, across to debt and welfare benefits and other issues that impact on students.
Below are just some of the comments we have received from NASMA members working in the FE sector
“NASMA has given me the ability to communicate with other advisors in similar roles nationwide, helping me to solve problems. My membership is invaluable”
“As a sole adviser working within an HEI with an FE provision, I welcome the inclusion of an FE specific resource through NASMA, as the funding support at this level of study is varied, multi -faceted and often confusing. Having the new FE Board member role will definitely raise the profile of specific issues we often face in a shifting landscape and I am confident that this will ensure NASMA become an authoritative and informed vehicle which best represents our voices to our HE members, external agencies and other stakeholders”.
