National Student Money Week 2014
National Student Money Week, (NSMW) came about because we want everyone - students, the media, politicians and the public - to know about and celebrate the financial support and advice offered in universities, colleges and students’ unions across the UK. The week provides a chance to take a positive message to the widest possible student audience and contribute to the collective voice of those working to support current and prospective students and to improve the financial capability of students.
NSMW Goes Large! in 2014
This year, NSMW will take place over 4 weeks, to allow greater involvement and participation. Members and institutions are encouraged to get involved at any time during the four weeks of NSMW, which starts on Monday 10 February 2014. You may be able to participate in each of the four weeks or only in one or two weeks. We hope this extension of NSMW into a 'money month' offers members more flexibility and we will be pleased to hear your feedback about whether you find this beneficial.
To provide a focus during the four weeks, each week of NSMW has a particular theme, as follows:
- w/c 10 Feb 2014 – launch of NSMW - this week includes Valentine’s Day on Friday 14 February
- w/c 17 Feb 2014 – payday lending and affordable credit
- w/c 24 Feb 2014 – accommodation theme (energy saving, carbon monoxide awareness, deposits, etc.)
- w/c 3 Mar 2014 – healthy mind and healthy body – wellness and the importance of good physical and mental health.
This week gives an opportunity to link with other university / college departments (disability, mental health, sports centre/gym, wellbeing team, counselling team, catering etc). This week includes Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday.
We have updated our resources section of the NASMA website to provide resources and details from partner organisations which you may find helpful, including Citizen's Advice Bureau's Big Energy Saving Week and the Money Charity's Student Money Manual.
Wellbeing will run as a general theme throughout the four weeks and there are various resources which can be used to support this theme.
NASMA will use the NSMW branding and logo used previously. We will use #nsmw14 for those of you using Twitter and will be pleased for Members to Tweet and re-tweet during NSMW 2014.
Showcase Partners 2014
This year we are delighted to announce our showcase partners are Birmingham City University and University of the West of England. Please refer to the 'Showcase Partners' link on the left for further information, thank you.
Supporting NSMW 2014
In 2012 we estimated our reach to be in excess of 320,000 individuals. This figure does not include those reached both before and after the week via promotional activity, resource materials and workshop delivery.
For 2014 we are seeking support from organisations and individuals. Will you:
- Promote NSMW via your social media channels
- Provide resources of relevance to students. These can be links to online material, hard copy documents or items to attract student attention.
- Offer training for advisers and/or students on topics of relevance
- Share ideas for how we can develop NSMW further in the future
Please email to firstname.lastname@example.org for more details if you are interested in any of these opportunities or would like to get involved in some other way, thank you.
